Southend have today confirmed that no fewer than five players have been made available for transfer.
Conor Clifford is the most high profile on those transfer-listed, with Issac Layne, Ellis Brown, Kane Farrell and Josh Banton joining him to make up the five made available for either loan or on a free….
Explaining the situation to the official website Phil Brown said that we’ve got to look at what we need to obtain promotion this season, which could also mean that some have to move on as a result to enable us to bring those in.
We’ve also got to take into account those that could leave on a free in the summer anyway.
He said: ‘We have had various meetings looking at our squad and what is required to obtain promotion this season.
‘We feel the need to bring in some players to help us achieve that goal in terms of goal threat and also additional experience.
‘The changes, which are in progress now, will limit the opportunities for these players and I decided it was best to let them try and find a club now to help them progress their careers by going somewhere and playing, rather than wait until the summer, when significant numbers of players become free agents.’
Jason Williams and Jack Bridge have also been made available for loan but they’re definitely in our long-term future so they go out with us looking for them to get the first-team football their development requires.
