Harrogate Hospital Radio short-listed for four National awards

2015 has got off to a flying start for Harrogate Hospital Radio after the charity was nominated for a string of national broadcasting awards.

The radio station, which is located in Harrogate District Hospital and has been on air since October 1977, has been nominated in four categories in this year’s Hospital Broadcasting Association awards.

Martin Fretwell is short-listed for Best Male Presenter; Mark Field for Best Newcomer; Ellie Jackson, a previous awards winner and multiple runner-up, for Best Female Presenter.

In addition, Harrogate Hospital Radio is one of ten short-listed for the coveted Station of the Year award.

Harrogate Hospital Radio chairman Ian Wighton said: Being shortlisted for four awards is a fantastic achievement for us and a great way to start the new year.

I’m delighted for Mark, Martin and Ellie in their individual nominations and we will be keeping our fingers well and truly crossed for them come the awards dinner.

For Ellie, being short-listed in these awards is becoming a force of habit and it’s the sixth time in the last seven years that she has made the cut.

Mr Wighton, who joined Harrogate Hospital Radio 37 years ago, added: Being nominated for Station of the Year is a real honour, and a testament to the outstanding quality of the shows we produce day in, day out.

The National Hospital Radio Awards will be held on Saturday, March 28, during a gala dinner at the HBA Annual Conference, being held in Gosforth, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The awards are judged by professionals working in the radio and health service industries.
