Glyndebourne Festival: accommodation booking guide

Blue Door Barns – four converted 16th-century barns, once frequented by the
Bloomsbury set – can organise a private car to/from Glyndebourne (£25) and a
picnic porter service, which includes setting up, and clearing away, a fancy
table with linens, glasses and candles (£20 per person for two; £10 per
person thereafter); a stay in a barn costs from £110 per night (01273
858893; bluedoorbarns.com).

Gravetye Manor, a Grade I listed 17-bedroom Elizabethan stone mansion in
West Hoathly, 20 miles away, is a festival partner, and can offer guests the
chance to buy selected tickets; doubles cost from £120 per night (0800 089
3929, prideofbritainhotels.com).

For something different, hire a Big Green Bus. Located six miles from
Glyndebourne, the converted double-decker has oak floors, doubles and bunks
sleeping up to six, a wood burner and showers; it costs from £150 per night
(0117 204 7830; canopyandstars.co.uk).

Or opt for a Benedictine priory in Wilmington, eight miles away. The attached
Georgian quarters (which sleep eight) provide far-from-monastic comfort;
three nights cost from £1,245 (01628 825925; landmarktrust.org.uk).

The Glyndebourne website features accommodation listings, but these are
unvetted, paid-for entries (glyndebourne.com).
