Mickey Rooney’s Former Home Listed

One of actor Mickey Rooney’s former homes is almost a new house after a major remodel and expansion, but it is better than ever and back on the market.

Rooney’s acting career spanned many decades, two Golden Globes, an Emmy and a special Oscar, belying the modest, vintage 1976 home he owned in Westlake Village, CA. Rooney sold the home for just over $1 million in April 2013 and died a year later at age 93 following his storied career.

The new owner is Kapilak Investments, which hired one of the best contractors in the area to completely renovate the home. And renovate they did, nearly rendering the home unrecognizable. Before the remodel, the house had a “newer kitchen,” but now it has a state-of-the art one — complete with sleek cabinets and smooth marble countertops.

Bathrooms also include sleek cabinets and marble countertops. The master suite includes a walk-in steam shower, fireplace and a bathtub that looks out over the lake. A fourth bedroom was added in the expansion. New wood and stone vastly changed the exterior of the house and landscaping. The secluded backyard even includes an homage plaque and fountain to Mickey Rooney’s legacy.

Westlake Village, just North of Malibu, is a popular retreat for celebrities. Mickey Rooney once owned another, larger property on the lake, too. Charlie Sheen listed his Westlake home earlier in the year.

And on the other coast in New York City, the “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” brownstone is for sale, where Mickey Rooney played a stereotypical neighbor of Holly Golightly many decades ago.
