Wayne Rooney has been named on a short-list for the 2014 FIFPro squad as voted for by fellow professionals.
Under David Moyes, Rooney showed a real resurgence having signed a new contract but he was unable to help Manchester United crash to their worst ever finish in the Premier League.
United team-mate Angel di Maria has also been nominated for the award having played a vital role in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph before helping steer Argentina to the World Cup final.
Rooney was also nominated by the FA for the England Player of the Year award and at a time where the striker is in-form on the pitch, he can seemingly do no wrong off it either with these nominations.
The Rooney who is currently in-form for United is the one fans love. He’s playing like a teenager again, the hunger is back, and fans are hoping his purple patch continues for as long as possible.
Here is the FIFPro list in full: Sergio Aguero, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Diego Costa, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi, Thomas Muller, Neymar, Marco Reus, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez
