A convicted drug dealer’s top-of-the-range Bentley is the latest luxury item to be offered for auction on a police eBay shop.

The 2006 silver Bentley Continental Coupe was seized from Cookie Amin, who made hundreds of thousands of pounds from the production and sale of anabolic steroids.

It was listed with a starting price of £34,000 on Thursday. The auction is due to end tomorrow night.

No bids were submitted in the first five days of the sale. However, police believe serious bidders often hold off until the final stages of an auction.

Leicestershire was the first force in the country to use eBay to sell assets seized from convicted criminals and now regularly handles sales on behalf of other forces.

It has sold more than 2,400 items, including cars, jewellery, computers and clothing, in the five years since it launched the site, generating more than £1 million.

Half the proceeds of sales are divided between the force, the courts and the Crown Prosecution Service in Leicestershire.

The remainder is paid to central government, which distributes some of it to good causes.

A Police spokesman said: “We are always keen to hear from members of the public if they know of someone who is living beyond their visible means and believe crime is the root of that person’s income.”

The police’s seller rating – a guide that helps would-be purchasers decide whether a seller is trustworthy – is 99.6 per cent.

That means almost all of the more than 2,400 people who have bought items from the force have been happy with their experience.

Amin (30), of Barge Walk, Greenwich, London, was jailed for four-and-a-half years in April last year after an investigation led by Nottinghamshire Police uncovered his online steroids business.

He pleaded guilty to making £900,000 from the production and supply of the class C drugs.

Police calculated Amin had £228,000 of assets, including the car, a share of a property in London, cash, bank accounts and jewellery.

Nottinghamshire Police financial investigator Ray Goddard said: “Amin was convicted of an offence where he had a considerable financial benefit.

“We were able to look over his lifestyle over the past six years and calculate his criminal gains.

“We seize cars and even houses, so a Bentley is a reasonable seizure.

“Amin has a £900,000 debt to the state and he will have this bill until it is paid off.”
