Listed runner-up new top lot at Arqana

Wild card entry Silverwave has smashed last year’s top price after selling for €420,000 in Deauville.

The unbeaten juvenile, by first-season sire Silver Frost, will return to the yard of Alain Couetil after being bought by the trainer on behalf of Hspirit, best known as the owners of Group 2 winner Spiritjim – who finished first past the post in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud but was later disqualified after testing positive for a banned substance.

Silverwave is a three-parts brother to Prix Jean Prat winner Stormy River and the Listed-placed filly Mary D’Or, both by Verglas.

Listed second Kingoverthewater (Lot 179) has leapt to the top of the table at Arqana, selling for €155,000 to Broadhurst Agency.

The three-year-old, a triple winner, was offered by his trainer Francis-Henri Graffard. He is a half-brother to three winners, including Group 2 Prix d’Harcourt scorer Boris De Deauville.

The sale is a good result for Laundry Cottage Stud’s Colin Bryce, who raced the Dalakhani gelding after he failed to sell here at €40,000 as a yearling.

Dalakhani’s 2010 stud fee was €50,000.

Kingoverthewater was followed into the ring by dual Group 3 winner Flamingo Star, who failed to sell at €340,000.

DALAKHANI juvenile Bukhari, twice a winner for Jean-Claude Rouget, is leading the way in Deauville at the halfway stage on day one of the Arqana Autumn sale.

The colt, out of the Listed runner-up Brofalya, was knocked down to Chris Richner for €82,000. Bred and raced by the Aga Khan, he was last seen when fifth of six in the Listed Grand Criterium de Bordeau.

Richard Venn came close to equalling that mark when going to €80,000 for Superb Story, a winning three-year-old gelding by Duke Of Marmalade from the yard of Jonathan Pease.

As hinted by the top lot, the Aga Khan draft is proving popular as always and one member, the handy Listed performer Ashkannd, looks set to continue his career in Australia after being knocked down to Chris Waller Racing for €78,000.
