2014 Turkey Day Classic: Listing of scheduled events for Alabama State … – Press-Register

MONTGOMERY, Alabama —  Alabama State University is gearing its 91st annual Turkey Day Classic and homecoming celebration with a string of events beginning Friday in Montgomery.

“Something Old. Something New. Forever ASU!” is the theme of this year’s Turkey Day Classic, which will be against the Stillman Tigers and is the first game not be played on Thanksgiving Day.

This year, homecoming festivities will take place a week prior to the Turkey Day Classic, which is set for Nov. 22 at the Alabama State University Stadium.

Friday, Nov. 14

  • Alabama State University players perform a day of service by coming together with volunteers to build a playground for disadvantaged youth at the Boys Girls Club in Chisholm on Lower Wetumpka Road.

Saturday, Nov. 15

  • Annual 5K Turkey Trot 1-mile Fun Run, which begins at 8 a.m. at the corner of N. University and Harris Way on Alabama State University campus.

Sunday, Nov. 16

  • Gospel Choir Pre-Thanksgiving Concert at 6 p.m. at the ASU Lelia Barlow Theatre. It’s free and open to the public.

Monday, Nov. 17

  • Campus Homecoming Decoration Contest with judging at 1 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 18

  • Campus Parade Carnival starting at 11 a.m. The parade starts at the Hornet Stadium and finishes at the Intramural Field.
  • Faculty/Staff Talent Show starts at 6 p.m. at the Ralph D. Abernathy College of Education’s auditorium.

Thursday, Nov. 20

  • Live Jazz Concert at the Montgomery Regional Airport starting at 11 a.m. by WVAS 90.7 NPR Radio.
  • Homecoming Step Show at 8 p.m. at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Tickets required.

Saturday, Nov. 22

  • The 91st Turkey Day Classic parade in downtown Montgomery begins at 9 a.m. in front of the Alabama State Capitol and winds down Dexter Avenue.
  • The 91st Annual Turkey Day Classic Football Game will begin at 1 p.m. Gates open at 11 a.m.

Sunday, Nov. 23

  • The Mighty Marching Hornets Band will present the Turkey Day Classic Battle of the Bands at 2 p.m.. Tickets required.
