They’re bringing Pickleback: Boozy milkshakes and shots hit AK menu

From milkshakes spiked with Kahlua to shots of pickle juice and bourbon, it’s safe to say The Adelphi Kitchen has shaken up its cocktail menu.

Almost a year after opening, the Adelphi Lane barbeque restaurant has broken out the cocktail shakers and sampled a fair few concoctions in a bid to refresh the drinks menu just in time for the festive period.

“Our food has evolved so fast, we thought it was time to ramp up our drinks menu,” said executive chef and owner Chris Tonner.

Headed up by general and assistant managers Carolina Carleschi and Lauren Pirie respectively, the team have been developing, experimenting and tasting different concoctions over the past two months to shake up The Adelphi Kitchen’s cocktail menu.

Inspired by a lemon meringue cocktail which featured on the very first drinks menu, the team developed a series of dessert drinks to appeal to diners, as well as tipples created to complement the barbeque restaurant’s food offering.

“We wanted to offer aperitif and pre-dinner drinks with a bourbon barbeque theme to them,” Chris added.

Launching to the public on Monday, the winter-inspired menu features flavours such as Christmas stocking favourite chocolate orange stirred with aptly titled Santa Teresa Rhum for a new twist on the Old Fashioned, while the Cherry Mash Sour is spiked with maraschino cherries, bourbon and a glug of cherry brandy.

But for those looking for something sharper with a savoury acidic kick can finally find Aberdeen’s best kept secret listed firmly on the menu.

Served in a few select cocktail bars, the pickleback has become de rigueur in the Granite City thanks to the staff of BrewDog, who championed the American shot’s introduction to Aberdeen bar culture around two years ago.

Chris added: “We’ve always done them on request, a few folk ask for them and so we’ve developed a really fine pickle juice to go alongside bourbon or whisky and served in Western movie style shot glasses.”

Not a drink for the fainthearted, those looking for something a little more comforting can seek out a chocolate milkshake instead – naturally spiked with warming winter spirits to give the children’s drink a suitably adult taste.

“As for the boozy chocolate milkshake, it’s been a bit of a labour of love,” Chris explained.

“It comes in a little milk bottle with a straw and is flavoured with Kahlua, Mozart chocolate liquor and Baileys. It’s a little bit quirky and something a bit different”

The Adelphi Kitchen’s new drinks menu launches to the public this week and more information can be found on the The Adelphi Kitchen website.
