Brains to sell Grade II Listed Victorian Cardiff hotel Churchills

Brewer SA Brain Co is selling Churchills Hotel in Llandaff as it is no longer commercially viable.

The Grade II listed 36 bedroom hotel is being sold with the potential for redevelopment.

Scott Waddington, chief executive of SA Brain Co, said: “We are always reluctant to sell a business from our estate but unfortunately Churchills is no longer commercially viable for Brains – in large part due to the size of the building and site.

“We will be sorry to lose Churchills but will continue to invest in our estate, focusing on delivering quality pubs with beer, food and bedrooms, such as the nearby Maltsters in Llandaff.

Scott Waddington features in our gallery of 35 key players in the Welsh economy:

“The welfare of our staff is, as always, a priority and in the event of a successful sale we will endeavour to find all team members alternative employment within our business.”

The hotel, bar and restaurant will continue to trade until its future is determined.

Churchills, which is next to the Howell’s School, also includes a two storey nine room building with suites and cottages which was built in the 1980s.
