A guide to bonfire and firework events in and around Southampton and …

Including celebrations in the city centres, Beaulieu, Cosham and Gosport

South coasters, celebrate Guy Fawes night this year at one of the many events happening in the ‘English Riviera’. In Southampton there’s a choice of displays at the Royal Victoria Country Park (Sat 8 Nov) or the Ageas Bowl (Fri 7 Nov). We’d probably recommend the latter, because (even though it’s probably not even cold in your part of the world) there’s also a bonfire to warm your (soft) southern souls, and Heart FM are providing music and entertainment. Plus there’ll be hot food and drink to keep everyone happy.

Just south of the city head to the Beaulieu Fireworks Spectacular (Sat 1 Nov) where this year’s display is themed ‘Rock Legends’. Fancy dress is a must, and an old-school style fairground with live music will keep the kids entertained.

If Portsmouth is closer to home then try the Fireworks at Gunwharf Quays (Fri 31 Oct), or head down to Cosham where Portsmouth City Council have organised a display and bonfire with live music at King George V Playing Fields (Wed 5 Nov).

For an evening specifically geared towards children head to Gosport’s Explosion! Museum’s Fireworks Spectacular (Sun 2 Nov), complete with a funfair and craft stalls. Plus, included in the price of the ticket is free entry into the museum’s 18th century listed gunpowder vault and galleries. With so much to cram into one evening, don’t forget that the fireworks start at 7pm.
