When the Christmas lights will be switched on around Wales in 2014

The switching on of Christmas lights signals the start of the festive season, with all sorts of displays planned around Wales for 2014. We’ve listed some of those events, which have been planned so far, and we’ll keep updating it as more information is released. Is there one planned in your area which isn’t listed here? Cardiff

You’ll see the lights in Cardiff twinkle from Thursday, November 13 in Cardiff to coincide with the Step Into Christmas event, which was created by Cardiff council to mark the start of the festive period and extended shopping hours in the city.


 

Swansea

Father Christmas will be returning to Swansea on Sunday, November 16 from 5pm to switch on the Christmas lights. Featuring a Dylan Thomas themed float among others, the parade will begin at the Dylan Thomas Centre in Somerset Place and continue up to Wind Street, College Street, along the Kingsway, St Helen’s Road.

Barry

On Saturday, November 29, from noon until 5pm Light Up The Square will take place at King Square. Enjoy live music from All That Jazz, The Bucket Band and Wonderbrass along with the festive street entertainers, street artists Urban Canvas will draw a beautiful Christmas Garland in pavement chalks and pastels and the town hall will come to life with a festive 3D projection display. Then the Christmas lights will be switched on at 5pm.

Carmarthen

There will be choral singing, a brass band and fireworks display from Carmarthen Castle when the Christmas lights are switched on on Friday, November 14.

Llanelli

On Friday, November 21 the Llanelli Christmas carnival and lights switch on will take place from noon, with and entertainment ranging from live music, parade, a children’s fun fair and fireworks display with the Christmas lights switch on starting at 6.45pm.

Milford Haven

On Saturday, December 6 from 3pm until 5pm, there will be a lantern parade led by Milford Town Band before the town lights are switched on.

Whitchurch, Cardiff

Join in the fun on Sunday, November 16 from 5pm till 9pm in Whitchurch Village for the switching on of the Christmas lights. at 7pm. Fundraising for new Christmas lights is still taking place so if you think that you can help visit the Whitchurch Christmas Lights Just Giving page.

Ammanford

On Friday, November 29 there will be a traditional fun fair, world record bid for the most snowmen, a fireworks display and a visit from Father Christmas and the Christmas lights switched on.
