October events listed for Beloit Public Library

Beloit Public Library has events planned for kids, teens and adults throughout the month of October. Events are free and open to the public, although some require

registration.  

Storytimes – Wednesdays at 10 and 11 a.m. For ages 6 and under. Siblings welcome. The Oct. 29 Halloween Party and Parade is at 10 a.m. only. Costumes are encouraged.

Baby Play Dates – Thursday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. For babies under 2 years old.

Family Craft and Storytimes – Saturdays, Oct. 4, 18, at 11 a.m. For kids 12 and under and their families. Oct. 4 – Fall; Oct. 18 – Halloween is Coming

READ to Lilly – Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. For ages 5 to 10. Registration and parental permission required. Sponsored by FABL.

Finding Signs of Our Wild Friends – Saturday, Oct. 4, from 2-2:45 p.m. Kids ages 12 and under and their families can learn how to find signs of our wild friends from Lena Verkuilen of the Welty Environmental Center. Part of Arrowhead Library System’s “The Great Outdoors @ your library” promotion.

Yu-Gi-Oh! and Gaming Club – Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Ages: 12-18. Refreshments will be served. Other board games will also be available. Registration is not necessary.

Arts and Crafts – Thursday, Oct. 9, from 4 to 5 p.m. For ages 6 to 12. Owl Crafts: Owl Puppet and Shelf Sitter, supplies provided while they last.

Stateline Genealogy Club @ Beloit Public Library – Friday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m.-noon. John Wasserstrass presents “Germans to America.” Anyone interested in researching family history is welcome to attend.

Speak Through Haiku – Oct. 12-18 – Passive Bulletin Board Activity. Ages: 12-18. See Haiku, Think Haiku, Construct Haiku, Deposit Haiku, Read Haiku.

Speak Through Blackout Poetry – Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Ages: 12-18. Through the magic of blackout, “write” a poem uniquely yours. Refreshments provided.

 Speak Through Improv – Thursday, Oct. 16, from 5:30-7 p.m. Ages: 12-18. Mindy Clark will lead games and techniques that show you how to speak your own voice via improv. Then get a chance to improv with the group. Refreshments provided.

Introduction to the Internet and Email – Thursday, Oct. 16, 10-11:30 a.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. Register by calling 608-364-2905 or stopping at the Reference desk.

Let Me Take a Selfie-Scary Version – Oct. 17-31. Ages 12-18. Find a scary book or DVD in the YA area and take a “selfie” with it. Use scary masks or pose with a scary monster, all found in the YA area. Upload the selfie on the BPL Teens Facebook wall. The best “scary selfie” will win a prize at the end of the two weeks.

Hoo’s Woods Birds of Prey Program – Saturday, Oct. 18, from 2-3 p.m. All ages welcome. Learn about hawks, eagles, falcons and the rehabilitation center Hoo’s Woods. from nationally known rehabilitator and Dianne Moller. Live birds will be present. Kids ages 8 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Part of Arrowhead Library System’s “The Great Outdoors @ your library” promotion.

Paperbacked!-Book Discussion for High Schoolers – Monday, Oct. 20 from 5-6 p.m. For teens ages 12-18. “The Fault in our Stars” by John Green. The first five teens to sign up at the reference desk for the book discussion will get a free copy of the book to read and keep. Pizza and a beverage will be served. Please register.

 Adopt-A-Shelf Training of Volunteers – Tuesday, Oct. 21, 3:30-5:30 p.m. An information and training program for the library’s “Adopt-A-Shelf” program where volunteers help to keep library items in correct order by “shelf-reading.” 

Fourth Wednesday Book Discussion – Wednesday, Oct. 22, 7-9 p.m. This month’s book is “American Buffalo, in Search of a Lost Icon” by Steven Rinella. Refreshments will be served.
