THE estranged wife of shamed former RBS boss Fred Goodwin objected to an affordable housing development because it would spoil her view.

Joyce Goodwin opposed plans for a three-storey block of flats next to her £3.5 million A-listed mansion in Colinton.

She and other objectors wanted Miller Homes to reduce the development by one storey so it would not block their views of the Pentlands.

Their objection complained the new flats were of “considerably larger, height, mass and density to the general housing type” and would obscure views.

But councillors approved the scheme for former Army polo fields at Dreghorn Loan.

A planning report said the development would “not have an adverse impact on the setting of the listed buildings”.

Fred “The Shred” Goodwin bought the six-bedroom home in June 2011 after his house in The Grange was targeted by vandals. But it is understood he has not lived at the address since his wife found out about an affair.

One neighbour accused Mrs Goodwin of hypocrisy over her objection to the flats because she has been locked in a bitter feud over a 25ft hedge around her property.

The neighbour said: “The Goodwins never seem to ask people their opinion about the hedges, they just do what they want.

“They think if they have good views it doesn’t matter about anyone else.”
