The 46 year old man had been registered missing, and received head and rib injuries at the north end of Greenock Road, at around 6.30pm.

Some of the passengers on the bus received injuries as the bus driver had to take evasive action during the shock incident.

Inspector Michael Oates of Largs Police said: “The man had been reported missing from the Cleveland area. He was struck by the bus on the road to Skelmorlie, just outside of Largs, He has not got life-threatening injuries, but was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for head injuries, a fractured rib, and psychological evaluation. There were a couple of people on the bus who were injured as a result of the driver having to slam on the breaks.”

The incident resulted in the road having to be temporarily closed as diversions resulted in gridlock on the Routenburn road to the Meigle due to mass congestion.
