Approval for nearly 100 new homes in grounds of listed former convent in Isleworth

Nearly 100 new homes are to be created in the grounds of a Grade II-listed former convent in Isleworth,
with building work set to begin later this year.

An application to convert the listed White House, chapels and stables at the Isleworth House site, in Richmond Road, into 23 flats was unanimously approved by the council’s planning committee last Thursday (September 25).

Developers St James and Beechcroft were also given permission to build 39 new houses at the 7.8 acre plot and create 36 care homes by converting the listed gatehouse and building a new five-storey block.

The Red House and wash block at the site will be demolished as part of the works, which are expected to begin later this year, subject to a legal agreement with the council, and to take two years to complete.

As well as new homes being created, the grounds will be extensively landscaped and a new public riverside walkway will be built.

The site was previously known as Nazareth House as it was occupied by religious order The Sisters of Nazareth from 1892 until they sold it to St James in 2013.

The white stuccoed building known as the White House or Isleworth House was originally built for George III’s physician.
