Dundee derby match to kick off with food bank collection

If you’re heading to the Dundee derby match, don’t forget to take a packet of sugar or a tin of soup.

It may sound a little strange, but this afternoon you can help out Dundee Food Bank before the match by donating a range of items towards their services across the city.

The collection is in partnership with Dundee Football Club ‘s charity team and management, encouraging supporters to bring along a donation to drop-off at Dens Park Stadium.

Any item donated must be unopened, in date and be non-perishable and the foodbank cannot accept any fresh, chilled or frozen food due to the storage and sorting process.

Dave Morris, manager of the Dundee Food Bank, explained more about the donation process.

“We’re asking fans to bring along donations, they can bring them to the game and drop them off before they go inside,” he said.

“We thought going to the Dundee derby would be a good way to get out into the community and do something a wee bit different.

“Primarily it’s a food donation drive but if anyone has any questions about the Food Bank or even if they’re thinking of volunteering, we’ll be on hand to answer any questions.

“It’s Dundee and we’re known as a very generous city so we’ve got faith in the football fans.”
