Rae Guest is anticipating a bold show from speedy filly Jane’s Memory in the EBF Stallions Roseberry Stakes up at Ayr tomorrow.
The lightly-raced two-year old will take on a field of 14 in the five-furlong Listed contest in what will be her first appearance on the racetrack since finishing second in the Group Three Prix du Bois at Chantilly back in June.
“Jane’s Memory had been running well early in the season and after winning her maiden she was placed in a Listed race then a Group Three,” said the Newmarket handler. “Although it was only a maiden at Leicester, she won first time out it was quite a good maiden with the second placed horse coming out since to win a Listed race.
“She has had a little break as after her last run she had a throat infection but she is fit and healthy now.
“It is quite an open race but she should have a very good chance if she runs up to her previous form.”
The Chestnut Tree Stables handler will be seeking an even bigger pot at the Scottish track 24 hours later after confirming that Minalisa is on course to have a shot at this year’s William Hill Ayr Gold Cup, which is worth £99,600 to the winner.
In her most recent outing back in July, the five-year old mare was seen claiming her first victory of the season when posting a length and a half success in the Listed Yeomanstown and Morristown Lattin Studs EBF Stakes over six-furlongs at Naas.
“All being well Minalisa will be going up to Ayr to run in the Ayr Gold Cup,” said Guest. “She likes fast ground and we are hoping that the track does not receive any rain between now and the race but we are pretty sure it won’t.
“She has not run since Ireland as she knocked herself in the paddock which stopped her for a few weeks but she is very well now.
“Minalisa will like the strong pace in the race and we have just got to be lucky enough with the draw.”
On Sunday, Guest will be one of a number of trainers opening their doors to the public between 9.30am and 12.30pm for the third annual Betfair Newmarket Open Day.
Among the horses visitors will get the chance to see is Mirza, winner of Sunday’s Group Three Qatar Prix du Petit Couvert at Longchamp for the second year running.
“Mirza is a real star and his win was the fourth time both myself and the owner have won the race after winning twice with Mirza’s mother Millyant,” said Guest. “Mirza will now go back to France next month for the Prix de l’Abbaye.”
