Symonds Sampson’s property auction on Friday 26 September at The Digby Hall, Sherborne, will be its’ biggest of the year so far. There will be 30 lots drawn from throughout Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Mark Lewis is already looking forward to the auction and said: “We have some stunning properties, many of which are coming to the market for the first time in their history. As usual we have an eclectic mix of the weird, wonderful and rare. In Somerset Gunville Farm in Charlton Hawthorne is a former dairy farm in a pleasant position on the edge of this favoured village. You will be bidding for an agriculturally tied bungalow, buildings and 66 acres of farmland within a ring fence. In Crewkerne a terraced, two bedroom property is guided at £75,000. We are will also be offering 5.7 acres at East Lydford, near Somerton. At Milverton, near Taunton, we have 44 acres of attractive arable grassland and woodland whilst at Elliscombe in Holton, Wincanton, 9 acres of pasture with some copse will be available.

“The Elliscombe land was part of the Elliscombe House Estate that was sold by auction in 1942 and was then sold again by our firm in 1951 and 1955. The estate was broken up but this 9 acre lot can still be found in the old sale particulars.

“In Wiltshire we have a fascinating lot being Penn Farm Barns near West Dean, near Salisbury. This is an opportunity to buy a range of magnificent Grade II Listed barns and outbuildings set in a stunning location with about 2.9 acres. There is another development opportunity at Tisbury where the Old Match Factory will be offered and has planning permission for two dwellings in the heart of the popular village. In Kilmington we have a three bedroom character cottage in an elevated position with an attractive garden.

“There are other development opportunities in Marnhull where a single building plot is available and a unique plot at Brandy Row, Chiswell on Portland, where there are stunning sea and coastal views.

“One property that is receiving a huge amount of interest is in Hampshire. Oak Tree Cottage at Ringwood is a delightful thatched cottage offering great scope for modernisation situated in secluded gardens. We believe that this is the first time that the property has been on the market. This is also true of Broadwater Cottage at Wynford Eagle in West Dorset. Part of the Wynford Estate it is an idyllic and unspoilt Grade II Listed cottage requiring renovation in a secluded rural setting.

“We have other property for improvement at Beacon Hill, Poole, in Stalbridge and Crossways whilst there are commercial opportunities in Dorchester where there is a large corner building fronting South Street and High East Street with a self-contained flat above the shop and the former Salvation Army Church and Hall in Durngate Street.

“Other lots include 5 parcels of land and a single lot with a building at Child Okeford near Blandford, some paddocks near Dogdean, Wimborne, 7 acres at Shipton Gorge near Bridport, 2 lots totalling 14.5 acres at Hartgrove near Shaftesbury and 6 acres at Purse Caundle.

“We look forward to seeing you at the sale but telephone Mark Lewis on 01258 473766 for further information and details about the October and November auctions so that you can discuss including your properties in these sales”.
