EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) –
Several hundred credit cards from Evansville are listed on a website known for selling that stolen information.
The information from at least two different credit unions is selling worldwide for as little as $6.75.
The cards and their information are listed on the website rescator.cc
Bloomberg says that website has become the clearinghouse for some of the largest breaches, selling hundreds of thousands of cards at a time.
Experts say cybercriminals, involved in both Target and Home Depot breaches, act very quickly when hacking into systems then posting your credit card information online to be sold.
“Even though your credit card is still in your wallet, thousands of people all over the world can have copies of your credit card now,” said Security Expert Mark Rasch. “We can make a fake one, and they can use it anywhere in the world.”
14NEWS has reached out to both credit unions listed on the site to see if they are aware if the information is posted online, but because it was after-hours we were unable to speak to a manager.
