EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) –
14NEWS found thousands of credit card numbers in the Tri-State up for sale on a Russian registered website, rescator.cc
Several credit unions in Evansville were listed, including Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union, Firefighters Credit Union, and the Evansville Federal Credit Union.
When we called EFCU, CEO Mike Sills told us he had no idea the numbers were listed on that site.
He says he’s now expecting an alert from their fraud monitoring company on which cards have been compromised, and from there, they’ll recall them and issue new cards.
“Its the biggest challenge we’ve got right now,” says Mike. “It’s the biggest expense we or fastest growing expense is plastic card losses and fraud. It just becomes one thing after another.”
Mike says one of the best things to do is just keep an eye on your bank account.
Also, be careful if you check the website, rescator.cc, it could possible cause computer problems.
