KEEN fundraisers can go the extra mile in one of Leeds’ most popular charity runs.
Supporters can get in the running for this year’s Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash, as registration is now open.
The YEP-backed event sees thousands of runners pound the pavements through the city every year to help raise vital funds for vulnerable older people.
Runners of all ages and abilities can make a Dash for it at the 10k race on Sunday, November 16.
Now in its 29th year, the Dash is popular with fun-runners and celebrities, as well as elite athletes.
Participants who sign up to the Leeds Abbey Dash will be raising funds for Age UK’s annual Spread the Warmth campaign, which helps older people stay warm and well during the colder months.
Some of the money will also enable Age UK Leeds provide services for older people in the city, such as information, advice and help to get online.
Lydia Curran, head of group events at Age UK, said: “Everyone who signs up to the Dash will make a difference, whether you’re a first-time fun runner or elite athlete, helping to raise much-needed funds for vulnerable older people around the country.
“We can only continue our work with the support of fundraisers so we are encouraging as many people as possible to sign up and help us support older people in difficult winter months.”

The Leeds Abbey Dash will start at Wellington Street and finish on The Headrow on November 16.
The course is flat and fast and is ideal for both first time and experienced runners.
It costs £20 to take part if you sign up before August 31, and £22 thereafter.
There is also a 2k event for youngsters aged from eight to 15 years old.
The Junior Race costs £8 to enter and everyone who finishes the course will each receive a limited edition Leeds Abbey Dash t-shirt.
The Dash has also been listed as one of the 100 best races in Men’s and Women’s Running Magazine’s Ultimate Race Guide and has once again been picked as the final event in the prestigious runbritain Grand Prix series.
The race has been chosen for a second year running as one of six events in the series and was the first charity event to ever be included.

Celebrity support
Last year’s Leeds Abbey Dash was the biggest ever, with a record 12,000 people taking part.
The charity race has been supported by several celebrities over the years, including Leeds lass, model and mum Nell McAndrew, former Hollyoaks actress Victoria Atkin, Australian popstar Gabriella Cilmi and ex-England and Leeds United footballer Danny Mills.
