CALDWELL, NJ- Though the summer is far from over, the Caldwell Library is not on vacation.  The coming weeks are packed with activities and events for all ages to beat the heat.

Butterfly Rick Mikula is coming to town to share his expertise on the winged insects on Tuesday, July 29. Mikula will bring live butterflies to demonstrate how they can be cared for. and will also demonstrate how to make insect traps using recycled items. This event is open to all children and their families.

For the entire month of August on Wednesday afternoons at 1, the library will offer showings of a new film series called, “Opera in the Afternoon” featuring Giueseppe Verdi’s “Otello”, Gluck’s adaptation of the Orpheus myth and the opera Jenufa by Janacek. Refreshments will be served.

On August 7 beginning at 6:30 pm the library will host a talk given by historic preservation consultant Kathleen Galop entitled, “Jacqueline Kennedy’s Historic Preservation Legacy”. Galop’s lecture will revolve around how Jackie Kennedy succeeded in stopping the bulldozers and set the course for historic preservation, which culminated in the Historic Preservation Act of 1966. This program is funded by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
