Median asking price of for-sale businesses in Sacramento area is $217000 – Merced Sun

The median asking price of small- and medium-size businesses for sale in the Sacramento area during this year’s second quarter was $217,000, according to San Francisco-based BizBuySell.com.

That was down from $225,000 in this year’s opening quarter but up from the median of $209,000 reported in the second quarter of 2013.

Second-quarter calculations were based on 178 Sacramento-area businesses listed at BizBuySell.com. The Sacramento statistics are based on listing data, not on completed business sales.

Listed businesses had median revenue of $388,056 in this year’s second quarter, up from $382,824 in the year-ago period.

Service businesses accounted for more than 40 percent of the quarterly regional listings, with a median asking price of $168,900. Thirty-three restaurants were listed for sale, with a median asking price of $190,000.

Nationally, BizBuySell said that the 2,029 transactions in the second quarter was the highest level since mid-2008.

“To see brokers reporting this much activity is a great sign that we have left the Great Recession behind, and both buyers and sellers are confident they can close deals in today’s small business market,” Bob House, general manager of BizBuySell.com, said in a statement.
