The Portland Hotel, a Grade II-listed building in Southsea, Portsmouth, dating back to 1847 and known most recently as the popular Havana Bar went under the hammer of Clive Emson Auctioneers earlier today with a guide price of between £1.4m and £1.6m.
The landmark hotel, which is ripe for development potential, is back on the market after a lack of sale in the auction.
The disused five-storey property at 38 Kent Road “attracted interest from several parties”, said Rob Marchant, the auctioneer with regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson.
The property also has land at the rear on Tonbridge Street.
“However, a winning bid for The Portland Hotel did not materialise in today’s auction.
“It may be a case that the interested parties come forward after the auction, once they have the paperwork for funding in place.”
The Portland Hotel was one of 21 lots being auctioned today at the Ageas Bowl near Southampton.
As previously reported the building has planning permission for 16 flats in the main building and for six new-build flats and a commercial unit on the rear car park, all in keeping with the surrounding conservation area.

Starting at 11:00am, Clive Emson’s next auction takes place at the same venue on Friday 19th September.
