7th Annual Concours de Tartes aux Fruits: On Aug. 7 from 5:30 – 7 p.m., the Multnomah Athletic Club will be hosting the 7th annual Concours de Tartes aux Fruits with the Alliance Francaise of Portland and the Oregon Culinary Institute. Guests will enjoy a sampling of tarts, sparkling wines, Lillet aperitif wines, as well as French cheeses and charcuterie. Members of the Alliance Française of Portland or the MAC should reserve with the organization directly; tickets are $25 each. Kim Jong Grillin’ Pop-up: For $30/person, first come, first serve, on July 23 starting at 6 p.m., get a taste of the soon-returning Kim Jong Grillin’ food cart at the Southeast Division location of Koi Fusion (S.E. 30th and Division). The three-course menu includes Korean fried chicken, pork bibimbop and persimmon and cinnamon punch ice cream.
Aviary Chinese food pop-up: Aviary’s Chinese food pop-up returns July 23 and Aug. 27 from 5 – 10 p.m. The pop-ups will take place in the front of the restaurant and reservations can be made by calling Aviary at 503.287.2400. Reservations are recommended, but not required, and walk-in guests will be seated first come, first serve. Guests will receive the prix fixe, family-style menu for $35/person, not including alcohol and gratuity. The menu includes deviled tea eggs, Nanjing-style salted duck, beef noodle soup and Hangzhou eggplant.
After Hours Supper Club: A new Portland supper club from Mindy Keith (Xico), Richard Batley and Dillon DeBauche (Little T Baker’s head baker) will be hosting its first dinner on July 24 at 7 p.m. at the Southeast Division location of Little T Baker. A six-course menu including Dungeness crab salad, braised goat leg and honey fry bread will be paired with Guild Winemakers wines. Tickets for dinner are $90/person and include pairings.
2nd Annual Crawfish Boil at Interurban: Chefs Jonny Henry Patrick Kille of Interurban will be teaming up with pFriem Family Brewing on July 27 for the second annual crawfish boil. The menu includes crawfish by the pound, catfish po’boy, oysters on the half-shell, as well as other Southern-inspired fare, paired with pFriem’s Super Saison, Little Saison, Belgian Strong Blonde and more. The event starts at 3 p.m.
Celebracion de la Independencia del Peru: On July 28, Andina will be celebrating Peruvian Independence Day with musicians and food. The event will include a two-set performance by guest artist Santiago Linares with Vladimir Vukanovich and master cajón player Pedro Rosales. Also performing is four-time Peruvian Marinera Dance Champion Néstor Ruiz and Peruvian dancer Luciana Proaño. Local Jazz guitarist John “JB” Butler will join the band for part of the evening. Throughout the performance, guests may order a la carte menu options from Andina’s full tapas, dinner, drinks and dessert menus. Doors for the event open at 6 p.m. There is a $20 cover for the performance and a $20 food and drink minimum, per person.
Punch Bowl Social One-Year Anniversary: Punch Bowl Social will be celebrating their one year anniversary with free bowling, ping pong, karaoke, darts and marbles from July 28 – Aug. 3.
Chef in my Garden Dinner Series: Starting in July and continuing through September, 10 Portland restaurants will be teaming up with Growing Gardens for the 2014 lineup of Chef in my Garden. Partcipating restaurants include Ned Ludd, Beast, Bluehour, Imperial, Ava Gene’s and Clyde Common. The third dinner on July 27 will be cooked by Bluehour. Tickets for each event are $150/person and include dinner and wine pairings. More information on the series is available here.
Free scoops from Ben Jerry’s: Through July 29, Ben Jerry’s will be scooping free ice cream across the Portland area with their annual Scoop Truck tour. This year, the truck will be scooping its new Core flavor concoctions. Trader Vic’s 3rd Anniversary Celebration: Trader Vic’s will be celebrating three years with a limited edition tiki mug ($100) designed by Munktiki founder, Paul Nielsen, who will sign each collector’s mug during the event, live music, food and cocktails on Aug. 1 from 5 – 8 p.m. Only 100 of the mugs will be available to purchase.
Sound Bites pop-up at The Calico Room: On Aug. 2 at 6:30 p.m., Country Cat‘s Chef Adam Sappington will be launching the first Sound Bites pop-up featuring popular dishes from the ’70s and a screening of the 1970 Led Zeppelin concert at Royal Albert Hall in London. The $40/person menu will include passed appetizers, a 1970s-inspired Waldorf salad, crown roast pork, sides and dessert. Wine pairings will be available for an additional $10/person. Mexican-Asian Fusion Dinner at Xico: Chefs Johanna Ware of Smallwares and Kelly Myers of Xico, will collaborate on a Mexican-Asian fusion dinner at Xico on Aug. 6 starting at 5:30 p.m. The four-course menu will include three ceviches, chawanmushi and crispy duck carnitas. The reservation-only dinner is $45/person and does not include gratuity and drinks. A la carte vegetables for the table will be available for a supplemental charge, including fried corn on the cob with miso butter and togarashi and fresh melon salad with queso fresco and pickled onion. Origin ’14 at Arbor Brook Vineyards: Over 25 wineries, Bamboo Sushi, The Bent Brick, The Painted Lady and other restaurants will be coming together on Aug. 9 from 4:30 – 8 p.m. at Arbor Brook Vineyards in celebration of food and wine in one of the “most dramatic geology” Oregon has to offer. Wineries include Adelsheim, Chehalem, Ponzi, Trisaetum and more. Tickets for the event are $60/person and include food and wine. Oregon Culinary Institute Dinner: On Aug. 12 at 7 p.m., the Oregon Culinary Institute will be hosting a three-course dinner with author Steven Shomler of Portland Food Cart Stories. Savor the Pearl: A week-long neighborhood tasting event benefiting adults and children suffering from cystic fibrosis will be taking place between Aug. 18 and 24. Participating restaurants include Bridgeport Brew Pub, Cool Moon Ice Cream, Garden Bar, River Pig Saloon and more. Tickets are $50/person. Nicky USA’s 14th Annual Wild About Game: On Sept. 7 from 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Timberline Lodge, four Portland chefs, including Jason French (Ned Ludd) and Josh Schofield (Toro Bravo) will be facing off against four Seattle chefs, including Rob Sevcik (Loulay) and Jason Stoneburner (Bastille) in the 14th annual Wild About Game culinary competition. Each dish will be presented to a panel of judges as well as to event attendees for juding. Tickets are $65/person and can be purchased in advance. Tickets will be $75/person at the door.
