Creative events wanted for Culture Days

BRAMPTON — Local artists, historians, musicians and other creative-types are being asked to register arts and cultural events they plan to present this September to help the city celebrate national Culture Days.

Culture Days weekend is Sept. 26, 27 and 28 and those involved in local heritage, arts, culture and entertainment are being asked to submit their Culture Days events soon, so they can be listed on the Tourism Brampton and Culture Days websites.

Last year, Brampton’s 32 events included painting demonstrations, walking tours, a rapper, open mic karaoke, spoken word performance, a drumming demonstration, a paranormal history tour, author discussions and a flash mob.

The events should be free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate and discover Brampton’s creative community.

Registering an event at www.culturedays.ca will ensure it is featured in the national marketing campaign.

Local events can also be registered by emailing tourism@brampton.ca for listing on the City of Brampton’s Tourism Brampton website.

This is the fifth year for Culture Days, and its aim is to encourage everyone to explore, discover and participate in arts and culture events across Canada.

“We are encouraging all artists to participate in this grassroots event to celebrate Heritage, Arts, Culture and Entertainment in Brampton,” said Marnie Richards, executive director for the Brampton Arts Council.

Sharon Wilcox, manager of Tourism and Film Services for the City of Brampton said more than 32 activities happened in Brampton alone on Cutlure Days weekend.

“This year we hope that even more creative members or our community, organizations and venues join the celebration,” she said.
