South Florida followed the national trend of positive growth for small business sale transactions in the second quarter of 2014.

According to data from BizBuySell.com, an online marketplace place for the sale of businesses, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Broward counties saw asking prices for businesses rise 10 percent compared to the second quarter of last year.

BizBuySell collected data from 1,374 area listings on its site and found that the median asking price for a business in South Florida is $219,950. Comparably, the median asking price in the second quarter of last year was $200,000.

Yearly cash flow of the listed businesses also rose, according to the data, with a median of $100,000, compared to $98,700 in Q2 of 2013.

However, the median revenue of those businesses listed for sale fell by less than 2 percent from $379,966 in Q2 of last year compared to $375,602 in Q2 of this year.

Nationally, BizBuySell was able to measure the actual transactions of businesses rather than listings from their site and found that sales were just 3 percent short of the pre-recession record mark set in the second quarter of 2008. BizBuySell began tracking business sales activity in 2007.

The report said that the national growth can be linked to a variety of factors, including increased supply and demand, improving small business performance and increased capital availability.

“To see brokers reporting this much activity is a great sign that we have left the Great Recession behind and both buyers and sellers are confident they can close deals in today’s small business market,” said Bob House, General Manager of BizBuySell in a news release.
