BRAMPTON — It’s time to celebrate all that Brampton has to offer.
So says Tourism Brampton and the Brampton Arts Council. They are encouraging
individuals and organizations involved in heritage, arts, culture and entertainment (HACE) to celebrate Brampton’s cultural vibrancy during Culture Days weekend (September 26 to 28).
All interested participants should submit their Culture Days events as soon as possible to have their event listed on the Tourism Brampton and Culture Days websites. When organizations register their events online with Culture Days at www.culturedays.ca, they will be featured as part of the Culture Days national marketing campaign. Events can also be registered by emailing tourism@brampton.ca to be listed on the Tourism Brampton website.
Now in its fifth year, Culture Days invites everyone to explore, discover and participate in arts and culture events in every community across the country. In 2013, the annual Culture Days weekend took place in more than 800 Canadian cities and towns, with attendance topping more than 1.7 million individuals. Approximately 7,500 activities were presented across the country, representing an astounding 70 per cent increase over the event’s first-year participation levels in 2010.
“We are encouraging all artists to participate in this grassroots event to celebrate heritage, arts, culture and entertainment in Brampton,” says Marnie Richards, executive director for the Brampton Arts Council.
Sharon Wilcox, manager, Tourism and Film Services for the City of Brampton, adds: “Last year, more than 32 activities happened here in Brampton as part of the Culture Days weekend. This year we hope that even more creative members of our community, organizations and venues join the celebration.”
Culture Days events are free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate and discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators and designers at work in their communities. Last year, events in Brampton included painting demonstrations, walking tours, a rapper, open mic karaoke, spoken word, a drumming demonstration, a paranormal history tour, discussions with authors, a flash mob and more.
