The Daily News building at 545 Diamond Ave. has been listed for sale by Coldwell Banker/CC Properties, as the newspaper plans to move into a smaller building better suited to its smaller staff size.
“The 17,000-square-foot facility is much more room than we need,” says publisher Greg Stevens.
Printing of the Daily News has been performed by its sister newspaper, The Enterprise-Record in Chico, for more than a decade.
Production staff was eliminated or repurposed when the Daily News press and mailroom equipment was sold.
The former press room and newspaper storage warehouse are used as general storage for other newspaper operations in the north state.
Digital production of the daily and the company’s increased focus on online, among other changes and challenges, has further reduced staff size in recent years.
Total staff in all departments is 19 today, compared to more than 40 about six years ago.
“We will start a search for new right-sized facilities in Red Bluff once the sale of our building is imminent,” Stevens said, “hopefully returning the Daily News to downtown Red Bluff.”
Coldwell Banker’s Elizabeth Soder is the listing broker and agent for the sale of the building and property.
