Fundraiser at Cool Moon Ice Cream: On July 3 from 6 – 8 p.m., Northwest Portland’s Cool Moon Ice Cream will be handing out free tastings of a new flavor — Non Sensu Communi — in support of former employee, Cooper Thomas, who hopes to participate in the Mongol Rally. $2 from every scoop will be donated until the ice cream is gone. Besaw’s Fourth of July BBQ picnic: On July 4, Besaw’s will be celebrating the Fourth of July with a picnic from 4 – 7 p.m with live music from Max McCargar. Menu for the picnic includes a $16 option, with a choice of entree (Laney Family Farms cheeseburger, veggie kabobs, two all-beef hot dogs) with two sides and dessert and a $20 options with a choice of entree (ground elk cheeseburger, baby back ribs, grilled wild salmon) with two sides and dessert. Sides include corn on the cob and veggie chips. Email Besaw’s to make a table reservation or bring a blanket and picnic on the grass.
Lardo’s 2nd Birthday Party: July 6 is Lardo’s 2nd Birthday. To celebrate, Lardo will be offering $2 beers and $2 banh mi sandwiches at the Hawthorne location from 5 – 10 p.m.
Free scoops from Ben Jerry’s: Through July 29, Ben Jerry’s will be scooping free ice cream across the Portland area with their annual Scoop Truck tour. This year, the truck will be scooping its new Core flavor concoctions. Follow/tweet @BenJerrysWest to see where free scoops are being served, as well as the chance to get scoops delivered directly to you.
Family-style Salmon Ssam: Smallwares will begin serving a whole, roasted salmon, filleted tableside. It will be served ssam style with wraps, such as lettuce, nori and scallion blinis, sauces, including kimchi, chinese mustard creme fraiche and fish sauce puree, herbs, assorted pickles, rice and roasted vegetables with miso and sesame. The dish, which feeds up to 10 people, is $115 and should be reserved by Tuesday to guarantee one for the weekend, Thurs-Sun.

Bastille Day Festival at The Heathman: The Heathman Restaurant and Bar will celebrate its French-inspired heritage by anchoring Portland’s annual Bastille Day Festival — the West Coast’s largest Bastille Day celebration — with its Pacific Northwest-influenced French cuisine. A special Bastille Day weekend menu will also be available at the restaurant. The Bastille Day Festival, free and open to the public, will take place at Director Park in downtown Portland on July 12, from noon to 6 p.m. The celebration will feature live music, arts and crafts vendors, a French book sale, activities for children, the Waiters Race and food and drink.
The restaurant’s Bastille Day weekend menu, available July 11 – 14, will offer a range of options, from beef tartare, vichyssoise and bouillabaisse to duck confit and grilled leg of lamb. For more information or to make a reservation at The Heathman Restaurant Bar, visit their website.
DaNet Monthly Russian Pop-up at Portland Penny Diner: Starting June 12 at 6:30 p.m., and continuing through August, Vitaly Paley will be launching DaNet, a family-style, five-course Russian pop-up, at Portland Penny Diner. Menu items include both traditional and potato blinis, with various toppings, including house made caviar, sour cream, jam, smoked fish, dumplings, soups, piroshkis, meat and/or fish and dessert. Dinner is $65/person, plus gratuity. Upcoming pop-ups will be on July 10 and Aug. 14.
Bar Mingo Fundraiser: Northwest Portland’s Bar Mingo is raising money for one of their injured servers, Eugene Flores, who has a broken ankle and is currently unable to work. The restaurant will be holding a benefit brunch for him on July 13 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Guests can either buy a table for $30/person or have a drink, food and make a donation. The brunch menu will include baked french toast, short rib hash and farro porridge. To reserve a table, call 503.445.4646. There will also be a silent auction during the brunch.
Chef in my Garden Dinner Series: Starting in July and continuing through September, 10 Portland restaurants will be teaming up with Growing Gardens for the 2014 lineup of Chef in my Garden. Partcipating restaurants include Ned Ludd, Beast, Bluehour, Imperial, Ava Gene’s and Clyde Common. The first dinner on July 13 will be cooked by Ned Ludd. Tickets for each event are $150/person and include dinner and wine pairings. More information on the series is available here.
Under the Antlers at Urban Farmer: Urban Farmer will be serving a four-course, seafood-centric dinner using exotic fish procured by Flying Fish Company, and a dessert course on July 17 in the Library Room on the 8th floor of The Nines Hotel at 6:30 p.m. Urban Farmer’s Chef de Cuisine, Chris Starkus and Bar Manager, Tyler Voelker will present each dish and drink pairing. Dinner is $120/person, includes drink pairings and gratuity. Call 503.222.4900 for reservations.
Dinner at the new Jacobsen Salt Co. HQ: On July 19, the upcoming Portland Jacobsen Salt Co. headquarters will be hosting a five-course dinner in collaboration with Williams Sonoma Open Kitchen and chefs Matt Accarrino (SPQR, San Francisco), Renee Erickson (The Walrus and the Carpenter, Seattle) and Jason French (Ned Ludd). Pairings for the dinner will include wine from Division Winemaking Company and Union Wine Co., as well as beer from Breakside Brewery.
