AUCTIONEERS from Hexham mart have been appointed to conduct the biggest sale of agricultural machinery in the North of England for decades.
Chris Armstrong and five of his colleagues from Hexham Northern Marts will lead the prestigious event at Hurworth Bryan Farm, near Wingate in County Durham, on July 19.
Going under the hammer will be a huge inventory of modern farming machinery and plant hire equipment, as well as a large and comprehensive selection of workshop machines, tools and vintage items.
Mr Armstrong said that, with more than 1,000 items listed for sale, the event will be on a scale “rarely seen in this part of the world,” and compared it to the auctions he hosts at Hexham every week.
He explained: “We regularly conduct machinery sales in addition to the livestock auctions at Hexham mart, but it’s rare to see something like this.
“There is some seriously powerful equipment on offer, of the likes rarely seen in this part of the world, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of it selling to overseas buyers.
“In a number of cases the equipment is little used. It should be an exciting sale to be a part of.”
Mr Armstrong expects to see familiar faces from Tynedale’s farms at the event, which will also be an informal social gathering for the agricultural community.
Hexham Northern are working alongside Youngs RPS to organise the sale, which is set to include a 2009 John Deere C670 Hillmaster combine harvester with only 360 drum hours, and a 52 plate John Deere 9520 articulated tractor, with just 600 hours of use.
In addition, there will be a Scammell eight wheel vintage lorry breakdown rig, while other equipment will range from a Simba 500 SL cultivator, and Claas quandrant balers, to haybobs, building materials and small tools.
Mr Armstrong added: “We are delighted to be working as joint agents with Youngs RPS on this prestigious auction sale and to be carrying out the auctioneering duties on the day.
“Our six strong team of auctioneers is well practised in conducting such sales and will ensure a swift and professional service to the crowd of buyers who are sure to attend.”
A key feature of the sale is the outstanding quality of the equipment, much of which will be like new, and has been very well maintained. Some has only been used on small farming operations, with other items having been part of a larger scale contract plant hire business.
Such is the scale of the sale that a viewing day has been scheduled for Friday, July 18, from 10am to 5pm. Any other viewing is strictly by appointment. All buyers are asked to register in advance of the sale.

The appointment of Hexham-based auctioneers for the event is the latest coup for Hexham mart this summer, after it hosted the nationally-renowned Beef Expo, in May.
