Old Train Station focal point of city

By David Luther

TriCities.com

On behalf of the Bristol Train Station Foundation Board of Directors, I want to bring the Bristol Community up to date on what has been taking place with our beautiful Train Station.

Through the efforts and financial support of many forward-thinking individuals and both of our cities, and funding from various government agencies, this iconic Bristol Train Station was saved from demolition. Now, it stands as a remarkable centerpiece for our flourishing city.

The Train Station Foundation’s goals since completing the renovation of the station six years ago have been:

1) to preserve the building for future generations;

2) to maximize its community use, and;

3) to operate in a fiscally responsible manner.

While we feel we have been successful in our first two goals, the third regarding profitability has proven to be more challenging.

Since opening, we have operated as an event facility, hosting many meetings, parties and weddings. We will continue to do this for the foreseeable future, guaranteeing dates at least a year out. We invite you to utilize this wonderful community facility for any event, meeting, or party that you may be planning.

A unique feature of this venue is that you can have any caterer or decorator you want to provide the food or fashion for your event. You can have it your way!

Soon, we will be conducting a feasibility study and strategic planning effort to determine the best long-range plan to achieve our stated goals. We invite public comment and suggestions, as well.

In the mean time, we will be increasing our marketing efforts to let more people know about the availability of the Bristol Train Station for their events.

Our Train Station is a vital part of our community history. We invite you to use and share this historic building with others.

For more information, or to book an event, contact our event manager, Donna Mabe, at 276-644-1573, or visit our website: www.thebristoltrainstation.org.

We welcome your suggestions through our website or by mail at Bristol Train Station, 101 Martin Luther King Blvd., Bristol, VA 24201.
