Paige Brown: Don’t miss out on city’s offerings

There is a lot going on every single week in and around Gallatin. If you’ve been missing out, and want to stay involved and aware of all that’s happening, there are some excellent resources you need to be using.

The first place to check on a regular basis is the event calendar for the Sumner County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Arts and events are also listed at Now Playing Sumner (nowplayingsumner.com), searchable by date, keyword, category and more.

The Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce’s calendar, located on our website (gallatintn.org) under the events tab, is full of every kind of event imaginable in and around our city. It is also searchable and very easy to browse.

Users even have the option to select desired events and add them directly to their own calendar program.

Both of these event calendars have been in development for years and are dependable and valuable to residents and visitors. However, both can be even better with the involvement and engagement of the community. Anyone may submit events to these calendars.

Submission is very simple, with easy-to-follow steps. Each calendar has a link where a new event can be listed. Once the required information is entered, the event is screened and approved before it appears on the website. Events must be open to the public and happening in our local area to be eligible for inclusion.

These comprehensive calendars, available to everyone, are so important for keeping people informed. They help families find entertaining things to do and even help market our community to visitors. For planning purposes, they are essential. For groups and individuals selecting dates, using the calendars helps avoid conflicts. While it’s almost impossible to find a date when nothing is scheduled, being aware of all that’s planned does help spread things out a bit, maximizing opportunities for both attendees and hosts.

Just a few of the upcoming events you’ll want to know about are Third Thursday on Main (happening through October), the Rose Mont Festival (10 a.m.–4 p.m. June 21), the Sumner County Fair (June 23–28) and the Wilson Bank and Trust “Business Before Hours” (7:30 a.m. June 24). Add these to your list of things to do. In these calendars you’ll also find the times and dates for the Gallatin Farmers Market, upcoming ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, grand openings, chamber luncheons and lots more.

There is something happening almost every day in our wonderful city. So use the resources available and never miss another great Gallatin happening.
