Noshing through Nob Hill: On May 21 at 7 p.m., join Dishcrawl, a food startup that plans events with local restaurants, on their Nob Hill crawl. Cookbook author Kim Sunée at Imperial: Vitaly Paley will be hosting author Kim Sunee, “A Mouthful of Stars: A Constellation of Favorite Recipes from My World Travels,” for a happy-hour book signing on May 22 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Imperial, 410 SW Broadway. Copies of Sunée’s cookbook will be available at the event.
Old Salt Starting Brunch: Starting May 17, Old Salt will be serving brunch with dishes featuring their bacon, eggs and sausage with vegetables from the Cully Neighborhood’s Thursday Farmer’s Market. Coffee and pastries will be provided byMiss Zumstein, next door. Brunch will run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.
Live music at Tea Zone and Camellia Lounge: On May 24, The Dmitri Matheny Group featuring David Valdez, will be playing at 8 p.m. Both are featured bands, other groups will be playing as well. For more information, visit their events page.
Free coffee Mondays at Frice Pastry/Phillipe’s Bread: Every Monday during the month of May from 7 a.m. – noon, Frice Pastry/Phillipe’s Bread, 4082 N. Williams Ave., get a free 8 oz drip coffee, one per customer.
Finnriver Cider Dinner: On May 28, Finnriver Farm Cidery will be hosting a five-course, gluten-free cider dinner at Harvester Brewing Gastropub, 2030 S.E. 7th Ave., from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. prepared by chefs Neil Davidson and Lauren Chandler. Courses include snap pea and radish salad, black cod or tempeh with morels and asparagus and a honey polenta cake. Each course is paired with a different cider. Dinner is $65/person and tickets can be purchased here.
Levant Patio opening/Happy hour: Levant, 2448 E. Burnside, will be serving happy hour Tuesdays – Fridays from 5 – 6 p.m. The patio, between the restaurant and Casa del Matador will be open starting May 8 (weather permitting). Next week, late-night happy hour will be available.
Sunday Roasts at Raven Rose: Every Sunday, Chef Troy Furuta will be taking the Sunday roast tradition and serving it family-style at Raven Rose. Diners can expect a feast featuring a choice of roasted meats and fish served with a selection of vegetables. The beverage menu will feature a number of shareable bottles of beer, cider, wine and cocktails. Dinner is $35/adult and $12/kids. French-themed menus at The Heathman Restaurant and Bar: The Heathman, 1001 S.W. Broadway, will be offering a series of six-course menus inspired by French cuisine. Their second dinner, available through June, will draw inspiration from the Lyon region. The Lyon-inspired menu will be $90/person (including wine) or $60/person (without wine). Cuisines of China: From June 1 – 30, 14 Portland-area Chinese restaurants, chefs and food experts will be giving talks and tastes every Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at noon, at the Lan Su Chinese Garden. Topics include the history and art of dumplings, pot stickers, Lanzhou-style noodle pulling, dim sum, marbled tea eggs and the history of Szechuan cuisine. Participating restaurants, chefs and experts include: The Baowery, Frank’s Noodle House, Szechuan Chef Restaurant, The Tao of Tea and Portland’s Culinary Workshop. And, from 1 – 3 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday, test your chopstick skills with the “Chopstick Challenge,” an opportunity to see how well you can do with a pair of chopsticks. Second Annual Negroni Week: From June 2 – 8, participating bars and restaurants across the country in collaboration with Campari and Imbibe magazine will be donating a portion of their sales from negronis to the charity of their choice. Participating Portland restaurants/bars include Hop Vine, Imperial, Church, Clyde Common, Interurban, Nostrana, Dig a Pony and Teardrop Lounge. Normandy Feast at Multnomah Athletic Club: In honor of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, also known as the Battle of Normandy, two Normandy chefs, Philippe Boulot of the MAC and Dominique Geulin, St. Honore Boulangerie, will come together to serve a three-course dinner at 6 p.m. on June 6. Courses include a crepe station, tarte flambee, mussels and braised pork cheeks in apple cider. Reservations are $55/person for food and gratuity, with drinks available separately for purchase. Chefwich Party at Lardo: On Sunday June 8, six Portland chefs, Adam Sappington (Country Cat), Gregory Gourdet (Departure), B.J. Smith (Smokehouse 21), Nick Zukin (Mi Mero Mole), Chris DiMinno and Sarah Schafer (Irving St. Kitchen) will be throwing down one more time on a sandwich celebration to benefit their charity of choice. Complete with a tap takeover by Crux Fermentation Project, Chefwich will be bringing back all six chefs back for a final tasting and vote. Entry is $20/person at the door, or free with a completed chefwich card. The event will be from noon – 4 p.m. at the S.E. Hawthorne Lardo, 1212 S.E. Hawthorne.
PDX Urban Wine Experience Tasting: The 4th annual premier wine tasting of all 11 members of PDX Urban Wineries will be taking place on June 8 from 3 – 6 p.m. at RefugePDX, 116 S.E. Yamhill St. Each winery will be pouring two to three wines. Participating wineries include Helioterra, Viola, Bow Arrow and Clay Pigeon Winery. Bottles will be available for sale, with discounts on 6- and 12-bottle purchases. Small plates will be provided by Crown Paella, plus sampling and sales by Jacobsen’s Salt, Portland Creamery, Tabor Bread and Tabor Tavern. Advance tickets are $32/person. 7th Annual Local Hero Award/Summer’s First BBQ: On June 12, Edible Portland and Ecotrust will be holding the 7th annual Local Hero Awards to celebrate local food heroes. Seven Portland chefs, including John Gorham (Toro Bravo), Scott Dolich, (Park Kitchen) Greg Higgins (Higgins) and Ashley Bisagna (Feastworks) will be teaming up with six local breweries (Breakside, Commons, Gigantic and more) and Salt Straw for the event. All proceeds support Ecotrust’s work building a resilient regional food system. The BBQ-focused menu includes roasted Anderson Ranch goats, grilled fish from Port Orford Sustainable Seafood and smoked Carman Ranch Spanish longaniza sausage.

Corks + Forks: In support of the Classic Wines Auction‘s five benefitting charities, the Corks Forks event will include Antica Terra, Boedecker Cellers, Love and Squalor, Montinore Estate and others, Portland-area restaurants, Gruner, Irving Street Kitchen and Meriwether’s Restaurant, sommeliers and DJ entertainment. Chef in my Garden Dinner Series: Starting in July and continuing through September, 10 Portland restaurants will be teaming up with Growing Gardens for the 2014 lineup of Chef in my Garden. Partcipating restaurants include Ned Ludd, Beast, Bluehour, Imperial, Ava Gene’s and Clyde Common. The first dinner on July 13 will be cooked by Ned Ludd.
