If you’re a fan who likes to track the ticket market, like we do at TiqIQ, the best way to get a good deal is often with patience. At TiqIQ, we’re dedicated to helping fans get the best deal for any event, whether it’s sports, music or theater. In that pursuit, there’s a great new tool on the market to help you do just that. Launched in March, it’s put out by Razorgator, which is one of our ticket partners. Currently, the app is available for the iPhone through the iTunes App Store with an Android version expected to be released in the near future. What differentiates the app from others is that it’s entirely focused on eTickets.
eTickets have been around for the better part of a decade in the ticket industry, and were first introduce by Ticketmaster in 2000. Since then, the convenience and simplicity of etickets have become almost pervasive. The one limiting factor, of course, has always been the need to print out those tickets at home or at work. Over the last few years, that has started to change, and now almost 60% of major venues provide the ability to scan tickets directly off of your phone. On the backs of that trend, the the Razorgator eTickets app is timely. Once downloaded, the app uses your current location to search for events in your area by date with an additional search bar at the top for quicker navigation. Searching for events is also pretty easy and once you land on a particular event or game you are interested in, you can see a venue map with all the available listings. As you scroll through the available inventory, the location of the top listed ticket is highlighted on the venue map.
According to Razorgator CEO Nima Moayedi, the goal of the eticket app is to both provide a level of convenience as well as helping fans get the best deal. Once the tickets are purchased, the eTickets are immediately sent out through both the app and as a PDF attachment via email. If you’re going to an event with eticket scanning capabilities, that means no printing required. So far, it seems to be working. According to Razorgator’s CEO, they are seeing twice as many order on the day of the event as they are on their desktop website.
While Razorgator’s app certainly supports the continued evolution toward mobile and paperless ticketing, it’s just one sign amongst many. Last week, the Philadelphia Eagles announced that they’re eliminating paper ticket for season ticket holders entirely, a move that will force fans to use electronic transferring platforms. As that trend continues, apps like Razorgator’s will continue to provide more utility to sellers and buyers alike. As this percentage continues to climb and as fans become more aware of this option, ticket buying will continue to evolve and transaction friction will continue to get reduced. While we’ve all wondered when the day will come when we can wait outside of the venue until 5 minutes before the game or show starts to get the best deal, the answer appears to be now. Razorgator has even extended that idea even further, as the app allows you to buy tickets up to an hour after the show starts.
