MANKATO — Law enforcement officials are trying to sort out a chaotic situation in which some 100 people scattered following gunshots outside the Kato Entertainment Center early Easter morning.
One person is dead and three others were injured in a shooting that happened in the parking lot of the Kato, 200 E. Chestnut, St., just after an event inside was closing.
Police were called at 1:53 a.m. Sunday and learned four people had been shot. All were transported to the hospital. One person died of their injuries and the other three were treated for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
A person was arrested and a handgun was recovered. Two others were arrested for obstruction of legal process.
Mankato Public Safety Commander Jeremy Clifton said that while the three were arrested, officials are still sorting out what exact involvement, if any, they had in the shooting. He said they were also trying to determine if there was just one shooter or more.
Kim Tong Yik Doluony, 21, was arrested for carrying a pistol without a permit. Nyeyoup David Gach, 18, and Dilang Nhial Dat, 20, were arrested for disorderly conduct. All three are in the Blue Earth County Jail. Clifton said more arrests are possible as the investigation continues. Clifton said none of the names of those arrested were familiar to him and he wasn’t sure where they were from.
A check of Doluony’s name in the state court system did not show any previous criminal charges.
Clifton said the names of the deceased and other victims aren’t being released yet as officials are trying to contact family members and determine if those family members may be at risk.
The Kato — which hosts public and private events — did not have any public events listed as taking place Saturday night. No one answered the telephone at the Kato Sunday. An email sent Sunday morning to Tania Cordes, owner of the Kato, was not responded to by Sunday afternoon.
