DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas police say new rules regarding bags and purses will go into effect at all Final Four events starting Saturday. The decision comes after pyrotechnics were stolen from the March Madness Music Festival at an unknown time on Thursday.
NCAA has consulted with Dallas police, according to the DPD Beat blog, to implement a “clear bag policy” for the rest of the March Madness Music Festival and in “Bracket Town.”
The same policy is already in effect at ATT stadium by way of NFL policy:
“Only small clutch purses, clear totes, plastic re-sealable storage bags or NCAA-provided clear bags will be allowed. Backpacks, large purses, camera bags, computer bags and luggage of any kind are not allowed.
NCAA-provided clear bags can be picked up at official NCAA hotels, Bracket Town, and the March Madness Music Festival. Fans who come to the concerts or Bracket Town with unapproved bags will not be permitted to enter.”
The stolen pyrotechnics have yet to be recovered, according to police.
The pyrotechnics were taken from a staging area on the parking garage on the “Houston Street viaduct.” A Dallas police report gives an exact location of 700 Hotel St.
The theft occurred on Thursday, April 3, but wasn’t discovered until Friday evening when workers from company ‘Pyrotecnico’ noticed “a quantity” of pyrotechnics missing.
The stolen items have been listed at a total value of $660.
When the theft report first came out, police said detectives processed any physical evidence they could find at the scene.
In addition, canines that can detect pyrotechnic material were brought in to sweep multiple locations around the event areas.
“We are in communication with our federal partners to assist in precautionary measures,” the DPD Beat blog reads.
