A former post office in Leamington Spa has been awarded Grade II listed status by English Heritage.

The building on Priory Terrace, which also contained Royal Mail offices, is within the town’s conservation area.

English Heritage described it as a “good quality and well-detailed late 19th Century” building which “complements well the surrounding character of this Regency spa town.”

Surviving original features include the main stairs and chimney breasts.

The building was designed by James Williams, an architect who was responsible for a number of post offices.

The conservation charity added that the building also formed part of a wider group of listed buildings including the nearby Church of All Saints.

The attached 1970s sorting hall and vehicle depot have been excluded from the list entry.
