Carnival parades are over, but the parade of homes is just beginning. Spring is the time for home tours and house and garden shows. There’s at least one every weekend in March. For the HGTV-watching and Houzz-surfing addicts, here’s a chance to satisfy some cravings.
What’s ahead:
Northshore Garden Show and Plant Sale — Friday, March 14, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 15, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Covington Fairgrounds — Plant sales, seminars, cooking demonstration and horticultural advice from the LSU AgCenter will be featured. Proceeds benefit the Bobby Fletcher Scholarship Fund. Admission: $5, with children under 12 free.
New Orleans Home Garden Show — Friday-Sunday, March 14-16, Mercedes-Benz Superdome — More
than 250 vendors will display everything from energy-efficient building
techniques to custom, locally made art. Seminars, cooking demos and
wine tastings also will be featured.
Sacred heart home tour — Friday, March 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — The Academy of the Sacred Heart’s “Tour de Maisons” features seven homes in the Audubon neighborhood.
Tree and plant sale — Saturday, March 15, 8 a.m. to noon, New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways, 2829 Gentilly Blvd. — Parkway Partners joins with the city’s Parks and Parkways Department to host the sale, and horticulturist Dan Gill, the Times-Picayune’s gardening columnist, will discuss flowering trees at 10 a.m.
Art in Bloom — March 19-23, New Orleans Museum of Art, City Park — Co-hosted by the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Garden Study Club, the event showcase creative floral designs, sculptures and scenes by more than 100 exhibitors. This year’s event theme is “Perfect Palette.”
Pontchartrain Home Show and Louisiana Outdoorsman Show — March 21, noon-8 p.m., March 22, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., March 23, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Pontchartrain Center, Kenner — The 26th annual show features products, services, demonstrations and information on remodeling, construction and design for kitchens, bathrooms, siding, solar products and more. The Outdoorsman Show features information and products for fishing, hunting, ATVS, archery and more. Admission: $8, with children 12 and under free. More information: jaaspro.com.
Spring Fiesta Home tour — March 23 and March 30, 1-4 p.m. — Tours of private French Quarter homes and gardens and the Spring Fiesta House at 826 St. Ann St. Admission: $30. More information: springfiesta.com.
PRC Shotgun House Tour — March 29, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 200 Broadway St. — A self-guided tour of eight renovated shotgun homes near Audubon Park. Admission: in advance, $16 for PRC members; $20 for non-members; day of the tour, $25. More information: prcno.org.
