Amazon UK has listed a new game called Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark for release on PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360, 3DS, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Well, I say have, the listing has since been deleted but a number of sites captured the description of the game:
The next instalment in the incredible Transformers gaming franchise, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is an exciting action game that is perfect for veteran fans and newcomers.
Not much to go on but the phrase “next instalment” seems to hint that this will be the continuation of the War for / Fall of Cybertron games, rather than a tie in with the movie.
In fact I am almost certain this is nothing to do with the movie because, well, I can’t tell you, you will just have to trust me.
Financially it would also make sense for Activision to create a standalone game for which they already hold the license, and then piggyback it on top of the hype for the movie, rather than fork out for yet another expensive movie license.
The last Cyberton game did feature a lot of Dark Energon and those games are set in the same universe as the current animated series which also features characters with corrupted sparks, rather than the Movieverse which features spikey robots, casual racism and dragons from Skyrim.
High Moon have been rather quiet since Deadpool flopped his way in to the stores so it’s a good bet they are working on the game.
Three months ago an investor call from Activision confirmed there would be a new Transformer game this year, I guess this is it.
