A LISTED building in Ilfracombe harbour will be restored.
Plans to refurbish Ilfracombe Yacht Club were approved at a North Devon planning committee meeting in Barnstaple on February 5.
Councillor Geoff Fowler said: “It’s an iconic building and a great asset to the harbour and I’m pleased to see this application.”
North Devon Council, which owns the grade two-listed build, will spend £20,000 on structural refurbishment, including new roof timbers and repairs to the gable wall.
The council said the 17th century building, which previously served as the harbour master’s office, was in need of refurbishment.
The building is currently used by Ilfracombe Yacht Club and includes a clubhouse and changing facilities with showers.
Executive member for development Mike Edmunds said: “This is an important and historical building on the harbour side, which is well used by the local yacht club and visiting yachtsmen.
“Listed buildings always require extra care and these essential repairs will maintain the integrity of the building and keep it in use as a clubhouse.”
The council hopes to begin work in the spring.
