Baby Foot too fast for rivals in Listed contest

Report: France, Sunday

Cagnes-sur-Mer: Prix de la Californie (Listed) 1m AW, 3yo

BABY FOOT (Frederic Rossi/Franck Blondel) overcame a difficult wide draw to run out a comfortable winner from Zvarov.

Blondel was obliged to drop towards the rear and bide his time as Pierre-Charles Boudot cut out the running aboard the Gay Kelleway-trained Act Of Charity.

The British challenge faltered approaching the furlong marker while Baby Foot swept down the outside to score by a length.

“I think a 1,600 metres [a mile] is as far as he wants at this stage,” said Rossi. “After that we’ll have to be looking at a programme in Paris for the spring.”

CALVIN WILLIAMS (Elie Lellouche/Anthony Crastus) was another to come late and wide as he overhauled last year’s winner Espero deep inside the final furlong.

Calvin Williams was deemed worthy of a shot at the Prix Djebel last spring and, while that run was followed by a six month absence, the son of Carlotamix is now making up for lost time with this, his first win at Listed level.

Espero went down by a neck and barely half a length covered the first five home.
