The bad news continues to roll in for the Bolts today. After suffering a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs last night at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, the Bolts suffered an even greater loss; Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop.

This was not the only injury the Lightning suffered during this encounter. The Lightning also lost center Valtteri Filppula late in the game to a Non-Displaced Ankle Fracture.

The Lightning found themselves down 1-0 at the end of the second period. The Bolts headed to the locker room with the hopes that they would be able to come out in the third and get this game back on track. However, when the Bolts hit the ice for the third period, Bishop was nowhere to be seen.

Taking his place in the net was Lightning goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.

Prior to not returning to the ice for the third period, the 6’7” 214 pound goaltender had made 21 saves on 22 shots, giving him a Save Percentage of .955.

Bishop just recently returned to action after being forced to leave the game against the Ottawa Senators in the opening minutes of the first period on Thursday, January 30^th. Thankfully, this injury did not force Bishop to miss any significant time away from the ice.

It is unknown at this point what the specific nature of Bishop’s injury is or how much time he will be forced to miss, but being listed as day-to-day is definitely a good thing. This would indicate that it should not be too long until Bolts fans can see him on the ice once again. However, injuries are a tricky business, and that could all change in the blink of an eye.
