“Gyre: The Plastic Ocean,” at the Anchorage Museum may get most attention in today’s First Friday art openings. The big art-and-science exhibit promises to be an eye-opener.
But it’s by no means the only thing happening. In the realm of pure art, the museum is also hosting Margo Klass’s solo show, “Proximity.” At the International Gallery, the wild items worn in this year’s “Object Runway” fashion event will be on display.
Two solo shows at Alaska Pacific University deserve some special attention. Rosemary Redmond will have sculptural paintings inspired by life in the cannery villages of Bristol Bay in the Grant Hall space and, over at the Carr Gottstein Building, sculptor Ron Naanes has what looks like a particularly strong exhibit titled “Spirit of Structure.”
There’s a lot more listed in the Play events calendar, but these have particularly caught my eye.
