Culture events taking place in Dundee on Feb 1 and 2

Are you looking to expand your cultural horizons this weekend?

Well you’re in luck because, as ever, Dundee has a whole host of different events happening across the weekend.

We’ve been on the lookout for some of the best and we’ve listed them all together for your convenience here.

Enjoy.

Sense of Place

Exciting new interactive exhibition at the McManus

A Sense of Place is an exciting interactive exhibition at the McManus Gallery. It encourages visitors to use their smart phones in order to discover more about Dundee as they go on an interactive trail around the museum.

A Silvered Light

Scottish photography exhibition unveiled at the McManus

Featuring the work of over 50 photographers collected over the last 28 years by Dundee city’s permanent collection, A Silvered Light is also being held at the McManus Gallery and has even been endorsed by our very own Lord Provost.

Discovery – Dundee Photographic Society

Life through a lens: Dundonian photography exhibition opens

Another photo exhibition but this one has pictures taken as far away as the Antarctic. Put on by the Dundee Photographic Society, which has been around since 1880, the exhibition is being held in the Discovery Point Cafe Gallery.

Carnaby Market Fair (Saturday only)

Second hand but second to none – the Carnaby Market Fair

A unique fair selling homemade and handcrafted goods that are sure to make a great impression as Valentine’s Day fast approaches. It’s being held in the Rose Angle Arts Cafe – which means you’ll also be able to get a lovely wee munch if you attend.

Disrupting the Alignment At Intervals

Change the way you see Asia at a brand new exhibition

Disrupting the Alignment is a fascinating examination of social issues in Pakistan from one of the country’s leading contemporary artists and At Intervals is a satellite exhibition discussing similar ideas. If you’re interested head to the Cooper Gallery.

Thomson and Craighead: Maps, DNA and Spam

Back where it all began – Craighead and Thomson

The recently installed exhibition at the DCA is a unique examination of the way that communications networks like the worldwide web are changing the way we relate to the world around us. Plus one of the artists responsible actually studied in Dundee so they’re pretty much local.

The Night of the Hunter (Sunday only)

The best of Bob Mitchum as Night of the Hunter hits the DCA

A classic film if ever there was, The Night of the Hunter stars Bob Mitchum, first came out in 1955 and is showing for one time only this weekend at the DCA

Live from the Bolshoi: Lost Illusions (Sunday only)

Dundee Contemporary Arts

Showing at the DCA, Lost Illusions is a new ballet composed in 2011 in Moscow about a budding composer whose desire for success blinds him.

So there you have it. Now you have no absolutely no excuse for doing nothing this weekend – unless that’s what you want to do, of course.
