You know a house is not going to come cheap when it has its own name.

The Twin Cities’ second most-expensive home was listed this week at $22 million, a stately white brick manor known as Tanager Hill that’s perched on a hilltop overlooking Lake Minnetonka.

The sale of the 13,000-square-foot Orono mansion, built by the son of General Mills’ founder, also includes a 3,500-square-foot guest house, pool house, two caretaker houses, and a barn, the Star Tribune reports.

Coldwell Banker’s description of the 1939 home and 32-acre property sums it up as, “Simply the most extraordinary and long admired estate on Lake Minnetonka.” The six-bedroom home has just one full bathroom, but four three-quarter baths, and four half-baths. See more images here.

The home has been owned for 42 years by Irwin Jacobs, 72, who amassed a fortune buying and selling companies, including boat-maker Genmar, the Star Tribune reports. He told the newspaper it was time to downsize to a smaller property near a lake.

Looking for something a little roomier? The Pillsbury Mansion in Wayzata is the state’s most expensive home on the market, listed at $24 million and boasting 32,000 square feet.

The western metro suburb of Orono last fall joined the likes of Malibu on a ranking of the Top 10 most-expensive housing markets in the nation.
