Local artist Jeanie Babin Lopiccolo was selected as the Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild’s Artist of the Month for January. An exhibit of her work is on display throughout the month. Lopiccolo joined the Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild in 1997. She has taken art lessons in oils with Karen Kelly and drawing classes with Gabrielle Bethancourt, in addition to several workshops held by the Fine Arts Guild. Lopiccolo has also attended pastel workshops with New Orleans artists Sandra Burshell and Darlene Johnson, in addition to attending workshops by noted artists like Mary Jane Cox and Bert Andry for watercolor, as well as Rhea Gary, Connie Coogan, Sue Sickle, Tanya Dischler and others.
Lopiccolo has received numerous awards from various local and regional art competitions. She has gradually migrated to painting abstracts, which has earned her blue and honorable mention ribbons in the Arts Guild’s Members’ Only Competitions, as well as the annual Spring Art Show.
“I love doing abstracts,” Lopiccolo said.
She has served the Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild in various capacities, including president, second vice president, correspondence secretary and gallery director. She is serving as assistant gallery director and is responsible for sales.
Lopiccolo’s exhibit will include abstracts as well as landscapes and collages painted in oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolor.
