Contents of closed St. Paul Jazz club listed for sale online

It appears there’s no turning back now for the recently-closed St. Paul jazz club the Artists’ Quarter.

The Pioneer Press says the bulk of the equipment from the facility is up for sale on Craigslist for $50,000.

Longtime owner Kenny Horst closed the revered club after its New Year’s Eve show. In October, Horst – who owned the venue for 18 years – said he could no longer afford the rent and utilities to keep the club open.

Among the items in the $50,000 lot are the club’s mahogany bar and its equipment, tables, chairs, a complete sound system, numerous instruments, stage lights, monitors, speakers and more.

Also part of the deal is the remainder of club’s beer and wine cooler inventory.

Despite efforts by St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman to keep the club open, an Artists’ Quarter tweet made it pretty clear that there was no chance of reopening – at least in its Hamm Building location.

The Star Tribune said the sale “confirms that owner Kenny Horst really does plan to shut the place down and not reopen with different partners.”

The club has won acclaim from the likes of Downbeat magazine, which in 2011 named the club one of the “150 Great Jazz Rooms” nationwide.
