THE Church of the Epiphany in Gipton, Leeds, has received £10,000 from charity National Churches Trust to help fund repairs to windows to reinstate the original design and provide weatherproofing.
The Grade I listed church was designed by Nugent Cachemaille-Day who was influenced by the church in Coutances, Normandy.
It was consecrated in 1938 to provide for the new garden suburb estate in Gipton.
The glass in the Lady Chapel, predominantly blue, provides a focus of colour in the light and spacious building.
Lay minister Jan Ali welcomed the grant, saying English Heritage had also provided money towards urgent repairs set to total around £500,000.
Five other Yorkshire churches received grants, including St James’s church at Clapham, North Yorkshire, and St Peter’s Church, Huddersfield. Hope Baptist Church at Hebden Bridge got £10,000 for new toilets and disabled access.
